CHANGE TO CHERMSIDE BUS SERVICE TO STADIUM

A change to the Chermside bus service to ease traffic pressures in Given Terrace on event days is a key recommendation in the revised Suncorp Stadium Traffic Management Plan.

Fine-tuning of the plan was undertaken in recent months by the Stadium in conjunction with transport management consultants Sinclair Knight and Merz and involved input from Queensland Police, transport authorities and key local stakeholders.

The first of the recommendations to be implemented will be changes to the Chermside Bus Service. Given Terrace will no longer be used as a drop-off and pick-up point for busses running between Chermside and the Stadium on event days. Instead, Chermside busses will drop-off and pick up from the Stadium bus Station located under the Southern Plaza.

Stadium General Manager, Paul Sergeant said this would remove about 2,000 passengers from the Given Terrace / Castlemaine Street area and lead to a reduction in traffic congestion in both streets on event days. It will also lead to a significant improvement in public safety in the local area.

These changes will be effective from Friday 18 April when the Queensland Reds play the Western Force. Information regarding this change was communicated to passengers using this service during last Friday's Broncos v Cowboys game.

Another key recommendation is the minimization of impacts on local businesses for weekday evening games by moving the commencement time for "No Standing" areas from 12 mid-day to 4pm.

Since its introduction in 2003, the Suncorp Stadium Transport Management Plan has been highly successful and is regarded as the benchmark model in regards to utilizing public transport for major events.

"An average of approximately 85% of patrons attending events at the Stadium catch public transport and in doing so, take advantage of the 'travel free' offer by simply producing their game day ticket," Mr. Sergeant said.
