INTERNATIONAL VENUE EXPERTISE SHARED AT SUNCORP STADIUM

Operational expertise acquired from two of the UK’s leading sports venues is presently being shared with staff at Suncorp Stadium.

Jeremy Evans who was previously employed in safety, operations and maintenance management by English FA Premiership Football Club, Aston Villa in Birmingham, is currently working at Suncorp Stadium until Christmas. This follows a recent five week stint at Telstra Stadium in Sydney.

Mr Evans is in Australia courtesy of an international venue officer exchange, an initiative of Ogden IFC, the leading venue management company in the Asia Pacific Region and operator of both Suncorp Stadium and Telstra Stadium.

Mr Evans’ arrival at Suncorp Stadium is timely, given the venue’s staging of Queensland Roar home games in the Hyundai A League national soccer competition.

During his three years at Villa Park Stadium (seating capacity 42,719), Mr Evans was involved with the planning and match day delivery of more than 70 FA Premier League matches, an FA Cup semi-final and the Carling Cup. Collectively, these events attracted more than 3.2 million spectators to Villa Park. His event day roles included ground management and maintenance including safety, stewarding and contingency planning.

In 2004, Mr Evans was seconded from Aston Villa to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales for the Six Nations Rugby Championships and the FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

Mr Evans said one of his career highlights to date was being part of the Ogden IFC management team at Telstra Stadium that delivered the historic World Cup qualifying final between the Socceroos and Uruguay.

Ogden IFC’s Executive Director, Rod Pilbeam said international exchanges such as this were a “win – win” for not only for the individuals involved but for the venues themselves.

“Sharing of international experiences is part of Ogden IFC’s strategy to remain a world leader in venue operations. We send key staff to major international events and also bring in experienced operators from the USA and UK,” Mr Pilbeam said.
