SUNCORP STADIUM PREPARES FOR FIRST MAJOR TEST

Suncorp Stadium, Australia's newest major sporting venue is preparing for its first full operational test this weekend.

Even though the NRL Round 12 blockbuster between the Ergon Energy Broncos and the Newcastle Knights is intended to be a "soft opening" for the stadium, there is every likelihood the crowd will be well in excess of 40,000.

Suncorp Stadium Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Donaghy said testing a new stadium first up with a crowd of that size presented significant challenges to the venue operator.

"Given that we will only take possession of the Stadium on Thursday night, this first Broncos game is virtually a dress rehearsal."

"So we have to be realistic and expect there will be teething problems. While our staff have been planning and preparing for this moment for some months
and they're as excited as the Broncos fans are about this historic event, we are asking people to be patient."

Mr Donaghy said it was vital that patrons attending the game did so via public transport.

"There is no parking at the Stadium, or within the Lang Park Traffic Area which is about a 1.5km radius of the Stadium."

"But patrons with pre-purchased tickets can travel free to and from the game on QR Citytrain and Brisbane Transport bus services. They just show their
game ticket as they board their train or bus."

Mr Donaghy strongly recommended patrons arrive early to avoid congestion. "They should give themselves time to become familiar with the fantastic
facilities at this world-class stadium."

“Patrons also need to be aware that alcohol, eskies, glass, and cans are
prohibited. Commercial food and beverage products are not allowed to be
brought in the Stadium, nor are any items likely to injure or inconvenience
other patrons.
“Anyone seeking more information is encouraged to call the Stadium office on

make the day as comfortable and enjoyable as we can,” Mr Donaghy said.
