Brazilian soccer giants Palmeiras will play Queensland Roar at Suncorp on July 13 as part of the annual Roar Against Racism match, Premier Anna Bligh announced today.
"One of the world's best soccer teams at the world best football stadium is the recipe for a memorable event. It will be a true carnivale-style day," said the Premier.
"This is the second major event of the Queensland Roars Against Racism campaign which Premier Beattie launched during his official reception in Johannesburg on 21 March," said Ms Bligh.
"The campaign is a three-year partnership between Multicultural Affairs Queensland and the Queensland Roar FC.
"Its aims is to send positive messages in support of harmony and social cohesion.
"This year's match will be on July 12 at 7:00pm again at Suncorp Stadium.
Palmeiras has won the Brazilian Series A Championships an incredible 6 times and was named in 1999 as the best Brazilian Club of the 20th century.
The Queensland Government through it's Multicultural Affairs Department will again be involved and all enquiries about ticket sales should be directed to the Queensland Roar.
"I encourage as many people as possible to attend to not only enjoy the football but to rage yet again against the evils of racism and to extol the virtues of multiculturalism," she said.
