New Stadium Surface Passed Fit For Boxing Day Local Derby

The newly laid Suncorp Stadium turf has been passed fit for play for Sunday’s local derby between Brisbane Roar and Gold Coast United.

Suncorp Stadium General Manager Alan Graham confirmed that FFA officials inspected the ground this morning and were satisfied with the surface.

“They are comfortable with the work that has been done and have no concerns about Sunday’s match.”

Mr Graham said the extreme wet weather had hampered installation but paid tribute to the Stadium’s ground staff and Strathayr Turf contractors who had worked around the clock to complete the installation.

“The weather has been atrocious and with more rain forecast, they have done a fantastic job to produce a playable and safe field for Sunday. The surface will continue to improve over the next week or two as it beds down” he said.

Mr Graham said despite the weather forecast, the Stadium was expecting a good crowd for Sunday.

“I urge fans however to pre- purchase their tickets to avoid delays.

“We can only plan transport and catering services based on a reasonable assessment of pre-sales. If large numbers decide to wait and buy tickets at the stadium, transport and catering services may struggle to cope leading to unnecessary delays for all.

“Also, the Stadium box offices can only process a certain number of tickets at one time, so if there is a large walk-up, there is a potential for delays,” he said.
