The life of the late Former Origin Greats (FOGS) Chairman and long-time Queensland State of Origin Manager, Dick "Tosser" Turner will be celebrated at Suncorp Stadium next Monday, 23 June, commencing at 11am.
Mr Turner's funeral will be a private family affair. However, the family has kindly agreed to allow FOGS to organise a public farewell to the man who became known as the "Godfather of Origin Football".
It is proposed to hold the celebration appropriately at the ground where State of Origin began in 1980 and where Mr. Turner left his mark as Queensland team manager over many years.
FOGS Executive, Gene Miles said today many of the 166 players who have represented Queensland at Origin, along with those who came into contact with Mr. Turner as a player and Rugby League administrator were expected to attend.
He said among those paying tributes will be Rugby League legends Wally Lewis and Mal Meninga, QRL Chairman, John McDonald and Don McLennan representing the Redcliffe Dolphins club.
John McKeon will officiate while poet, Rupert McCall will deliver a tribute as part of the hour long celebration.
Access to the Stadium will be via the public gates A and B on the Southern Plaza (Milton Road end). Limited parking will be available at the Stadium Bus Station and on local streets. Guests are encouraged to use regular QR rail (to Roma St or Milton stations) and Brisbane Transport bus services to the Stadium.
