Suncorp Stadium has welcomed today’s announcement that the Queensland Lions have been granted a licence to play in Australian Soccer’s new Premier League
national competition.

The announcement means all Queensland Lions home games and possible home semi-finals in this competition will be played at the Stadium.
Stadium Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Donaghy congratulated the Queensland Lions Club on their efforts in securing the licence.

“Not only is it great news for the development and profile of soccer in Queensland, it gives Suncorp Stadium a summer tenant and shows the Queensland Government’s foresight in planning a purpose-built stadium for rectangular field sports.

“The tremendous success of the venue for both Rugby League and Rugby Union has been acknowledged, and we believe soccer here will be just as successful.
Mr Donaghy said Australian Soccer had recently expressed its confidence in the Stadium by requesting the Socceroos train here prior to their Federation Cup
matches against the Solomon Islands.

“The feedback from both coaching staff and players was very positive and we are actively pursuing opportunities for them to play international matches here leading up to World Cup qualification,” he said.
