Penalty Spot Raises $2755 for Premiers Disaster Relief Appeal

One lucky sports fan has spent $2,755 on a unique piece of Queensland sporting history.

Sport Minister Phil Reeves said the winning bidder snapped up a piece of Suncorp Stadium turf from where the penalty shoot-out occurred in the Brisbane Roar's grand final victory on 13 March 2011.

"The charity auction finished on ebay today, with all the proceeds going to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal," Mr Reeves said.

"I'd like to congratulate the winner who is the proud owner of a memento from one of the greatest grand finals in Australian football history.

"The Roar's stunning victory was a shot in the arm for all Queenslanders, and now it's provided a shot in the arm for the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.

"The lucky winner will certainly be the envy of all their mates as only one piece of the hallowed turf was up for grabs on ebay."

The 38cm square piece of turf will be presented on a wooden base with a Perspex cover and will include a commemorative plaque and Certificate of Authenticity.

In addition, the winner will receive a 2010/11 Hyundai A-League match ball signed by the grand final winning Brisbane Roar squad.

As the turf is a natural product, it will need to be planted in the yard or a garden to preserve it.
