In a first for Queensland, Suncorp Stadium patrons will have the box office in their hand, in the form of electronic tickets on their smart phones.
Mr Reeves said Suncorp Stadium is geared up for Ticketek’s new mobile ticket delivery application called M-Site.
“M-Site will allow fans to purchase tickets via their mobile or online and almost instantaneously have a barcode forwarded to their phone which is scanned through at the entry gate,” Mr Reeves said.
“Where multiple tickets are purchased, barcodes can be forwarded onto other recipients mobiles for scanning at the turnstiles upon arrival.
“However, as is the case with paper tickets and cards, barcodes can only scan through once.”
Mr Reeves said Suncorp Stadium is the first venue in Queensland to introduce this technology launched in time for this Saturday’s match when the Brisbane Roar take-on the Perth Glory.
“The launch will coincide with the possibility that Brisbane Roar will break the Australian football record for the most successive straight wins,” he said.
“It’s well known that Australians embrace new technology like no other. M-site will give fans another option and greater flexibility in purchasing their event tickets.
“Between M-site and the new ‘Qld Megafan’ iPhone app it’s now easier than ever before to know what events are on and purchase tickets instantaneously, wherever you are.
“Ticketek advise that in the short time since it launched M-Site, more than 15% of its online traffic came from mobile browsing.
“But importantly, they are not just browsing but buying as evidenced by the fact that 10% of ticket sales for the Foo Fighters 2011 tour were sold via mobile.
“The beauty of M-Site is that fans can purchase tickets to any event whenever they want and from wherever they are.”
Mr Reeves said M-Site will be introduced to other Queensland stadiums in the future.
Ticketek plan to roll out similar technology at Skilled Park, Dairy Farmers Stadium and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in the future.
