AFFECTED TURF AT STADIUM REPLACED ON SCHEDULE

The replacement of 1,900 square metres of turf at Suncorp Stadium has been completed on schedule. The removal of the affected turf and the laying of the replacement turf was a three day project which was completed this morning and without any issues. It will now have nine full days to be top-dressed, rolled and prepared in time for the next event at the Stadium – the Broncos v Bulldogs game on Friday 17 August.

Stadium General Manager, Paul Sergeant said he was confident that, by that date, the playing surface would be of the highest possible standard.

“From a player’s perspective, the northern end between the 20 metre line and tryline will be stronger underfoot with less divots appearing from sudden sideways movement.”

He said that the Stadium had recently received a clean bill of health following a nematode roundworm infection about three months ago.

“And the replacement turf was also checked for nematodes prior to being cut and delivered to the Stadium.”

Mr Sergeant said that turf replacement was part and parcel of sporting fields worldwide.

“Both the Broncos and Queensland Roar were comfortable with our decision and timetable to replace the affected turf. And in return, we’re confident of delivering a playing surface of which they can be proud for their upcoming games at the Stadium,” Mr Sergeant said.
