Take Public Transport and Arrive Early for Reds Final - GM Urges

Queensland Reds fans attending Saturday’s historic Super Rugby grand final have been urged to leave home early and allow plenty of time to arrive at the ground, to avoid missing kick off.

Suncorp Stadium General Manager, Alan Graham said today Rugby fans traditionally arrived late which could work against them in being in their seats for the start of the game.

“While there are plenty of buses and trains to meet overall demand, if everyone left their departure until the last minute, the public transport system would be overloaded, leading to delays and inconvenience for all.

Special public transport services will commence running from 5.10pm.

“With such an exciting final anticipated, we don’t want fans to miss one minute of the action.”

Mr Graham said public transport was still the only way to go to the Stadium events.

“By showing their event ticket, patrons travel free on the regular timetabled and special Brisbane Transport bus and Queensland Rail services on game days. This offer applies from mid-day Saturday to the last scheduled service that night.”

For further information about public transport services, call Translink on 13 12 30 or see the Stadium website

Mr Graham said that by catching public transport and leaving the car at home was the best way to avoid a fine for parking in local streets on event days.

He said there had been a sharp increase in the number of parking infringement notices being issued on game days recently.

“A parking fine or finding that your vehicle has been towed away can put a dampener on a good night at the football.

“Its even more disheartening, particularly when there is a perfectly good system in place designed to help fans get to and from the Stadium quickly and with the minimum of fuss.

“Fifteen minute parking restrictions apply in local streets around the venue on event days. These restrictions are advertised and promoted widely and are strictly enforced by Council officers for the safety and convenience of patrons and local residents, he said.
