Tickets to Wallabies v Wales Rugby Test Now Onsale

Australian Rugby Union today announced tickets to the opening Test of the Castrol EDGE Wales Tour on Saturday 9 June at Suncorp Stadium are now on sale.

Qantas Wallabies captain, James Horwill, was joined by Minister for National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing, Steve Dickson and ARU Deputy CEO, Matt Carroll, to encourage fans to secure their tickets early.

Wales head to Australia after being crowned the Kings of Europe with an unbeaten march through the Six Nations Championship and Minister Dickson encouraged fans to show their support for the Qantas Wallabies and fill Suncorp Stadium on the night of the Test.

"Major sporting events like this play a vital role in contributing to the Newman Government's target of $30 billion a year in tourism by 2020 - with this Test part of a 10-year agreement to bring more international Rugby matches to Queensland,” Mr Dickson said.

"Queenslanders are renowned for our passion when it comes to sport, you only have to look back to last August when Suncorp Stadium was awash with gold as the Qantas Wallabies won the Tri Nations.

"On Saturday 9 June, I encourage Queenslanders to once again pack this great stadium and dress in gold to support the Qantas Wallabies as they take on Wales.”

Tickets to the first of the three Tests in the Castrol EDGE Wales Tour, which went on sale through the Ticketek website at 9am, have been priced at similar levels to when the Welsh toured Australian shores in 2003.

Tickets will start from $49 for adults and $98 for a family of four; representing an increase of just $8 for adults and $16 for families compared to the 2003 ticket prices.

ARU Deputy CEO, Matt Carroll, said ARU wanted to ensure Test tickets remained as affordable as possible.

“We want to ensure everyone has a chance to watch the Qantas Wallabies in action, which is why we’ve worked hard over the last few years to ensure Test ticket prices are affordable and appealing,” Mr Carroll said.

“That is why we have decided to keep tickets to the opening Test of the Castrol EDGE Wales Tour in Brisbane as close to the 2003 prices as possible.”

Qantas Wallabies captain, James Horwill, said the team was excited to be opening their Castrol EDGE Wales Tour campaign at Suncorp Stadium.

“Being able to play in front of a home crowd is something the side loves to do and to be able to open the series against the Welsh at a ground that we have enjoyed some of our greatest successes at in recent years is great,” Horwill said.

“You can’t underestimate the influence a packed Suncorp Stadium filled with Gold has on the side.

“It gives us a great amount of confidence and really spurs us on. It’s like having an extra man on the field.”
