Suncorp Stadium Donates Excess Stock to local charity Communify

With the current rescheduling of events at Suncorp Stadium, excess stocks of food and drink was today donated to local Queensland charity organisation, Communify.

The O’Brien Group, who manages catering services at the Stadium, wanted to donate excess stock to those in need and so reached out to long-time partner, Communify.

Excess food, drinks and snacks which were originally marked for patrons of the Stadium will now be made use of by the Community-minded charity.

Simon Camp from the O’Brien Group says “It’s something small we can do to help the community during these tough times. Everyone is feeling the effects of the current situation and if we can help in any way, we’re more than happy to”.

The stock was picked up from the Stadium on Thursday afternoon with Communify representatives gladly accepting the donation.

Communify CEO Karen Dare said “The donation comes at an especially timely moment during the COVID-19 crisis. We will redistribute the donations via care packages delivered by a team of volunteers to those in our community experiencing financial hardship.”

Communify is part of an initiative to co-ordinate food distribution across the Brisbane region.  Partnering with rescue food organisations OzHarvest and SecondBite and calling for donations of non-perishable food items the initiative will ensure that those who have lost their jobs or those facing financial difficulties have access to food and other necessary supports.

“The donations received today from the O’Brien Group is very much appreciated and will help a large number of care recipients over the coming months.”

The donation follows an ongoing partnership between Suncorp Stadium and the local community with collaboration occurring frequently.

Suncorp Stadium General Manager Alan Graham says “Suncorp Stadium and Communify have had a long-standing relationship and we are happy we’re able to continue to work together in the face of adversity”.

While events that had be scheduled for this time of year have been postponed, Suncorp Stadium continues to be ready and available for matches when safe to do so.
