Suncorp Stadium to Switch Off for Earth Hour

This Saturday the 28th of March between 8.30 and 9.30pm is Earth Hour 2020 with Suncorp Stadium getting involved in the global event. Suncorp Stadium is joining the #switchoff movement and asking their patrons and the local community to show their support to this initiative.

This Saturday night, Suncorp Stadium will do their part to switch off with the iconic Suncorp Stadium lights to go dark for the hour.

Other external lights will also be turned off with the internal operational lighting to be switched to night mode to reduce energy consumption. This will be done in addition to the Stadium’s already energy efficient operations.

Suncorp Stadium General Manager, Alan Graham said today that Earth Hour proceedings is just another step in the Stadium’s ongoing commitment to sustainability initiatives.

“We have committed to ongoing sustainability initiatives at the Stadium including Energy Conservation, Water Conservation, Harmful Substance Minimisation and disposal, Waste Minimisation through reuse, recycling and repurposing as well as sustainable purchasing. Earth Hour gives us the opportunity to showcase our commitment in a visual manner and ask our community and patrons to be involved.”

For patrons looking to be involved in Earth Hour, you can share on social media how you are spending your hour switched off by including the hashtag #switchoff. Photos of the iconic Brisbane landmark without it’s lights on will be reposted through social media.

Suncorp Stadium hopes that amid the Coronavirus pandemic the community can still maintain a social connection and share in important global causes. The night gives people the chance to be optimistic for the future, an important idea in times of uncertainty.

Earth Hour has been occurring with both large and small businesses involved since 2007. Suncorp Stadium has been involved in the proceedings over the years when games have not been scheduled.

Suncorp Stadium has been committed to sustainable practices with innovative thinking around waste management, water conservation and energy conservation among the major endeavours undertaken during the day to day operations of the Stadium.
