The spring turf transition begins 🌱
We're starting to thin out our ryegrass canopy and have lowered the cut height by 4mm (from 22mm to 18mm), allowing sunlight to reach the couchgrass beneath as the soil warms up.
At Suncorp Stadium, we follow a two-grass policy. Every March, we overseed ryegrass into couchgrass to ensure optimal playing conditions during the winter. Now, as the weather warms up, we're shifting focus back to our couchgrass, which performs best in temperatures between 25-35 degrees and loves the humidity.
The mission is clear: under the expert leadership of our Grounds Manager, Matthew Oliver, our Grounds team is pushing to amp up the Couchgrass coverage leading into the warmer months.
Managing sports turf in Brisbane’s intense climate is no small feat, especially with our jam-packed event calendar. But if there’s one thing our ground team thrives on, it’s a challenge. Bring it on!
