I reckon David Fifita will have a lot of ground to make up when he makes his long-awaited return to the Broncos against the Rabbitohs on Friday night.

Fifita’s contractual tug-of-war between Brisbane and the Gold Coast was the longest-running soap opera since Neighbours and while I have no problem with a young bloke taking the big bucks to set himself and his family up for life I do think he owes the Broncos some big performances for the remainder of the season.

After all, this was the club that gave him his start in the NRL. They nurtured him, prepared him and, when he got into some strife in Bali, they literally flew to his side and helped sort out the mess. Most of all, when negotiations over his playing future dragged on and on, they gave him all the time he needed to come to a decision and, when that decision went against them, they accepted it with good grace.

We all know how much the Broncos have missed having Fifita on the field since the resumption of the season, but the disruption his situation off the field caused to the team should not be under-estimated.

Fifita probably only has eight games left in Broncos colours. I reckon he should make sure they are the best eight games of his career.

What do YOU reckon?
