I reckon all the recent debate over the Broncos captaincy is a total beat up. There is only one candidate for the job and that is Adam Reynolds...

You don’t spend a motza buying a player for his leadership and experience and give the small (c) to somebody else. And that’s ignoring the fact that there is simply no-one else at the Broncos who is remotely qualified for the job.

The captaincy of the Broncos has been a huge problem since the day Darren Lockyer hung up his boots at the end of the 2011 season. No-one since, except perhaps Corey Parker, has even come close to commanding the same level of respect from players, referees or fans as Locky did in 176 games over an eleven-year period.

The captaincy over the last few years has been a revolving door and to say that there is an alternative to Reynolds is complete nonsense. You only have to look at replays of matches from last season to see how much of a steadying influence he was at South Sydney – and unlike the Broncos, the Rabbitohs were a side choc-full of experienced big-name stars.

I reckon if they were prepared to follow Reynolds’ example on and off the field – all the way to the grand final – then there is no question that he is the only man for the top job at the Broncos.

What do YOU reckon?

AGREE: Of course he’s got to be the captain, for two reasons: first, he’s the best man for the job and second, there’s no-one else at the club who comes close.

DISAGREE: He’s a South Sydney blow-in who has come north for the money. Captaincy of the Broncos should go to a local player who has shown loyalty to the club.
