20/07/2022

With today marking one year to go until the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023, Football Australia Head of Women's Football, Women's World Cup Legacy and Inclusion Sarah Walsh, FIFA representatives, junior players and Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles gathered at Suncorp Stadium to celebrate the milestone.

Celebrations marking ‘One Year To Go’ until the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 kicked off with a cultural lighting ceremony at dawn in Hamilton/Kirikiriroa, New Zealand, followed by the unveiling of a Unity Pitch in Sydney/Gadigal, Australia and coordinated evening light shows across the tournament’s nine Host Cities.

Football Australia revealed the progress made to date with its Legacy ’23 plan as the organisation continues to push its bold project to leave a lasting legacy for the sport beyond the global tournament in a year’s time.

FIFA also announced today that tickets for the FIFA Women’s World Cup will go on sale online from 6 October with tickets starting from $20 for adults and $10 for children.

Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles said Brisbane was proud to be among the Host Cities for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023.

“With an audience of over one billion people the FIFA Women’s World Cup will well and truly put Brisbane on the global stage,” Mr Miles said.

“Brisbane is a sporting city and hosting eight matches here will show the world we’re serious about our sports whilst showing off Queensland to the rest of the world.

“It’s going be a massive decade for Queensland, kicking off with the Women’s World Cup and wrapping up in 2032 with the Olympic and Paralympic games.”

FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer Sarai Bareman said: “Today is a hugely exciting milestone and with qualifications taking place around the world for the competition, more community spaces for women and girls to play football, and tickets about to be released, FIFA is hugely excited to see women’s football go Beyond Greatness in 2023.”
